How to Choose Wall Panels & Relief

Decorative wall panels transform surfaces while considering weight, installation, and design intent.

1. Define the Design Intent

Subtle texture panels add depth without dominating the room. Bold 3D relief panels serve as the primary focal point. Geometric patterns create rhythm and repetition. Nature-inspired motifs bring organic softness to modern interiors.

2. Choose the Material

GRC panels offer durability and fine detail at moderate weight. Carved wood adds warmth and natural variation. Cast plaster provides smooth, paintable surfaces. Metal panels add industrial or luxury character.

3. Consider Panel Size and Layout

Standard panels are 60×60 cm or 60×120 cm for efficient coverage. Custom sizes are available through our Custom Program. Plan the layout before ordering — symmetrical grids create order, while staggered layouts add dynamism.

4. Installation Requirements

Panels mount directly to wall studs or a prepared substrate using included brackets. GRC and plaster panels can be adhesive-mounted on flat walls. Allow for expansion gaps in large installations. Professional installation is recommended for areas exceeding 4 square meters.

What is GRC and why is it used for wall panels?

GRC (Glass-Reinforced Concrete) is a composite material combining cement with alkali-resistant glass fibers. It is lighter than solid concrete, allows fine detail reproduction, and offers excellent durability. GRC panels typically weigh 40-60% less than equivalent solid concrete pieces.

Can wall panels be painted or finished on-site?

Cast plaster panels are designed to be painted after installation with standard interior paints. GRC panels accept stain or paint. Wood panels come pre-finished but can be refinished. Metal panels arrive with their final patina or powder-coat finish.

What is the fire rating of NUMBO wall panels?

GRC and plaster panels are non-combustible (Class A fire rating). Wood panels are treated with fire-retardant coating (Class B-s1, d0). Metal panels are non-combustible. We provide fire rating certificates for commercial projects upon request.
