How to Choose the Right Mirror

A well-placed mirror transforms a room’s sense of space and light.

1. Purpose and Placement

Entryway mirrors (minimum 48 inches tall) serve a functional and aesthetic role. Statement mirrors above consoles or fireplaces anchor a wall. Leaning floor mirrors (60-72 inches) add height and drama. Bathroom mirrors should be sized to the vanity width minus 4-6 inches on each side.

2. Frame Style

Metal frames (brass, black, nickel) suit contemporary and transitional interiors. Wood frames bring warmth to traditional and organic modern spaces. Stone and plaster frames create sculptural presence. Frameless mirrors maximize the sense of space in small rooms.

3. Light Reflection

Position mirrors opposite windows to double natural light. Place near artificial light sources to amplify ambient glow. Avoid placing mirrors directly opposite cluttered areas, as they will reflect and multiply visual noise.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size mirror works above a console table?

The mirror width should be two-thirds to three-quarters of the console table width. For a 48-inch console, choose a 32-36 inch wide mirror. Leave 6-8 inches of wall between the mirror bottom and the console top.

Can mirrors be hung in bathrooms?

Yes. Our mirrors use sealed frames and moisture-resistant backing suitable for bathroom environments. For steam-heavy bathrooms, we recommend our metal-frame designs which resist humidity better than wood frames.

How do I hang a heavy framed mirror?

Use D-ring hangers with wall anchors rated for the mirror's weight. For mirrors over 30 lbs, use French cleat mounting systems. Always hang into wall studs when possible. Our larger mirrors include mounting hardware.
